Challenges of cervical screening in trans populations
In this talk Alison Berner focuses on trans (transgender) and non-binary people in England. Trans people do not need cervical screening as they do not have a cervix, but may still get invited. She explores barriers to healthcare, negative experience, lack of understanding by healthcare professionals, vaginal atrophy painful with speculums examination (due to testosterone). She details a pilot study SELF-TI Study which is examining the acceptability and feasibility of HPV self-testing among transgender and non-binary people is now recruiting in England.
