HPV Vaccination and impact Implications for cervical screening

In this talk Kate Cuschieri looks at the impact surveillance of how effective the HPV vaccination programme has been in Scotland.

The HPV vaccination programme in Scotland is school based and has an uptake of 90%. Evidence from a Seven year cross sectional study - looking at various cohorts of women in the HPV reference laboratory has shown dramatic results with a decrease in prevalence rates of HPV 16/18 infection from 30% to 4% with cross protection against HPV 31 appearing. A take home message is that the younger you have been vaccinated the better it works
